TARDIS For All

It's bigger on the inside!
If traveling through time and space in style and comfort appeals to you, then skip those single-passenger, built from a parasol and wing-back chair contraptions and hitch a ride in a TARDIS. Lost in time, away from home with lots to do and room to roam, thats what I say. Because if there is one thing about the TARDIS that makes it superior to all other forms of relative dimensional travel it's that it is bigger on the inside. Oh, if they just made TARDIS blue jeans, say 38" waist on the outside and 42" on the inside, I'd die and go to denim heaven.

But where does one find a TARDIS, you ask? Where DON'T you find one! They are everywhere, relatively speaking*. They even show up on Google Maps and Street Views. And if you don't happen to find one just sitting on a corner somewhere you can build your own. Perhaps you'd like to start with a visit to the TARDIS Library, just one of the many resources available to the resourceful.

If constructing a full-sized replica is not practical, but you still want to DIY, then perhaps a papercaft model is more your speed. There are MANY to choose from. I like this photo-realistic one myself.

Yet, there are those for whom a bit of folding and gluing is simply not enough. Some scratch build wooden models and light them. Some then take those models and through an unholy combination of alchemy and science, make their TARDISes put the rest of ours to shame.

Check out this awesome AR TARDIS model thunk up and built by Greg Kumparak:

I'm sure that there is MUCH more TARDIS related ephemera in the Whoverse that I've missed than I've seen. So please accept these tiny nuggets of TARDIS greatness as the aperitif that they are intended to be, and please don't be shy about sharing your finds with me, either in the comments section or simply transmat them directly to my FaceBook page.

*Check out this Tech Crunch article written by the guy who built his own Augmented Reality TARDIS model. Overachieving bastard!

  1. Amazing how that app works. holy mackerel. I made a chipboard version of the Tardis . I couldn't figure out how to attach the door but you've given me an idea. I made just have it slide in somehow like yours does. Where did you find the light for the top? It's perfect. I tried to paste a picture of my Tardis here but the computer won't let me.
